| Penn Virginia Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the exploration, development, and production of crude oil and natural gas primarily in the Appalachian, Mississippi, and Mid-Continent and Gulf Coast onshore areas of the United States. It operates in three segments: Oil and Gas, Coal, and Natural Gas Midstream. The Oil and Gas segment explores, develops, produces, and sells crude oil, condensate, and natural gas primarily in the eastern and Gulf Coast onshore areas. The Coal segment engages in the management and leasing of coal properties, and subsequent collection of royalties. This segment also provides coal preparation and transportation services, as well as owns and operates coal handling facilities, through its joint venture, with Massey Energy Company. The Natural Gas Midstream segment offers natural gas gathering, processing, marketing, and other related services. As of December 31, 2006, the Oil and Gas segment had proved reserves of approximately 5 million barrels of oil and condensate, and 457 billion cubic feet of natural gas; the Coal segment owned and controlled approximately 765 million tons of proven and probable coal; and the Natural Gas Midstream segment owned and operated approximately 3,631 miles of gas gathering pipelines and 3 natural gas processing facilities. The company was founded in 1882 and is headquartered in Radnor, Pennsylvania with additional offices in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia. |
