| Universal Display Corporation engages in the research, development, and commercialization of organic light emitting diode (OLED) technologies and materials. OLEDs are thin lightweight and solid-state devices, suitable for use in full-color displays and as lighting products. Its proprietary technology, Phosphorescent OLEDs, utilize materials and device structures that allow OLEDs to emit light through a process known as phosphorescence. The company also engages in the research, development, and commercialization of other OLED device and manufacturing technologies, such as Transparent OLEDs that utilize transparent cathodes and transparent anodes useful in flat panel display applications requiring semi-transparency or transparency, such as graphical displays in automotive windshields; Flexible OLEDs, which are built on non-rigid substrates, such as plastic or metal foil; Organic Vapor Phase Deposition; and Printable Phosphorescent OLEDs to demonstrate the methods that are used with its small molecule-based phosphorescent emission technologies. It develops and licenses its OLED technologies to manufacturers of products for display applications, such as cell phones, MP3 players, laptop computers and televisions, and specialty and general lighting products. Universal Display also develops and sells new OLED materials to product manufacturers. It has strategic relationships with Samsung SDI Co., Ltd.; Sony Corporation; Seiko Epson Corporation; Tohoku Pioneer Corporation; Konica Minolta Technology Center, Inc.; AU Optronics Corporation; and DuPont Displays, Inc. The company was founded in 1985 and is based in Ewing, New Jersey. |
