| OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biotechnology company, engages in the discovery, development, and commercialization of pharmaceutical products for the treatment of oncology, diabetes, and obesity in the United States. Its flagship product, Tarceva (erlotinib) is a small molecule inhibitor of the epidermal growth factor receptor. The company also offers Macugen for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration; and Novantrone, an anthracenedione used as an intravenous chemotherapy agent, as well as for the treatment of nonlymphocytic leukemia and the relief of pain associated with hormone refractory prostate cancer. Its products under development include OSI-930, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor designed to target cancer cell proliferation and blood vessel growth, or angiogenesis, in selected tumors completed Phase I dose escalation studies; OSI-906, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that acts as a selective inhibitor and stimulates proliferation, enables oncogenic transformation, and suppresses apoptosis; and PSN9301, which completed Phase IIa for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. In addition, OSI Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with Pfizer develops CP-547,632, a VEGFR inhibitor, which is in Phase II trials; and CP-868,596, a PDGFR inhibitor that is in Phase I trials. Further, the company's products under pre-clinical stage of development include OSI-027, a TORC1/TORC2 signaling inhibitor; and PSN602, a S1RUP inhibitor. The company has collaboration agreements with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory; Genentech, Inc.; Roche; and AVEO Pharmaceuticals, Inc. It also has a collaboration agreement with Dako A/S to study EGFR PharmDx for use as an aid in the assessment of patients with a diagnosis of nonsmall cell lung cancer.
