| Lincoln National Corporation engages in multiple insurance and investment management, as well as in broadcasting and sports programming operations primarily in the United States. It operates in five segments: Individual Markets, Employer Markets, Investment Management, Lincoln UK, and Lincoln Financial Media. The Individual Markets segment offers individual fixed annuities, including indexed annuities and variable annuities, as well as broker-dealer services. It also provides wealth protection and transfer opportunities through single and survivorship versions of universal life, variable universal life, and term insurance, as well as offers linked-benefit product, a universal life insurance policy. The Employer Markets segment provides employer-sponsored fixed and variable annuities and mutual fund-based programs, as well as corporate-owned universal and variable universal life insurance, and bank-owned universal and variable universal life insurance to small and mid-sized banks, and large-sized corporations. It also offers group life, disability insurance, and dental insurance products. The Investment Management segment offers various retail products, including mutual funds to individual investors, as well as investment services to high net worth and small institutional investors through managed accounts. It also provides investment advisory services to various institutional clients, such as corporate and public retirement plans, endowments and foundations, nuclear decommissioning trusts, sub-advisory clients, and Taft-Hartley plans. The Lincoln UK segment offers unit-linked life and pension products in the United Kingdom. The Lincoln Financial Media segment operated 18 radio and 3 television broadcasting stations in the southeastern and western U.S., as of December 31, 2006; and produces and distributes syndicated collegiate basketball and football sports programming.
