It operates in three segments: Automotive Finance, Mortgage, and Insurance. The Automotive Finance segment provides consumer automotive financing products and services, including purchasing or originating, selling, and securitizing automotive retail contracts and leases with retail customers primarily from General Motors (GM) and GM-affiliated dealers, as well as collection and processing services to those contracts and leases; and fleet financing to automotive dealers and others. It also offers automotive dealer financing products and services comprising financing the purchases of new and used vehicles by dealers; making loans or extending revolving lending facilities for various purposes to dealers; selling and securitizing automotive dealer receivables and loans; and servicing and monitoring such financing. In addition, this segment provides individual leasing and fleet leasing products and vehicle remarketing services, as well as holds a portfolio of automotive contracts, leases, and automotive dealer finance receivables for investment or sale. The Mortgage segment principally originates, purchases, sells, and securitizes residential mortgage loans. This segment also provides primary and master servicing to investors in its residential mortgage loans and securitizations; collateralized lines of credit; and specialty financing and equity capital to residential land developers and homebuilders. The Insurance segment offers automotive extended service and maintenance contracts through automobile dealership; automobile physical damage insurance and other insurance products; and vehicle and home insurance through various distribution channels, including independent agents, affinity groups, and the Internet. The company was founded in 1919 and is based in Detroit, Michigan. |
