| Allegheny Energy, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, owns and operates electric generation facilities, as well as delivers electric services. The company operates in two segments, Delivery and Services, and Generation and Marketing. Delivery and Services segment operates electric public utility systems. This segment also engages in generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity. Generation and Marketing segment owns, operates, and controls electric generation capacity, as well as supplies and trades energy and energy-related commodities. As of January 1, 2007, this segment had owned and controlled capacity of 9,670 MWs, of which 7,604 MWs were coal-fired; 891 MWs were natural gas-fired; 1,093 MWs were pumped-storage and hydroelectric; and 82 MWs were oil-fired. Allegheny Energy offers its services to customers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia. The company was incorporated in 1925 and is headquartered in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. |
