| Allegheny Energy, Inc. owns and operates electric generation facilities, and delivers electric services to customers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia. This segment generates electricity through various fuel sources, including coal and synthetic fuels, natural gas-fired, pumped-storage and hydro, and steam. As of December 31, 2008, it owned or controlled approximately 6,919; 2,811; and 1,084 megawatts of generation capacity. This segment also purchases and sells energy and energy-related commodities. The company is headquartered in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. |
