| Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., together with its subsidiaries, provides insurance brokerage and risk management services. It operates in three segments: Brokerage, Risk Management, and Financial Services. The Brokerage segment places insurance for and services commercial, industrial, institutional, governmental, religious, and personal accounts; places insurance on behalf of other brokers, as well as places surplus lines coverages for specialized risks; manages employee benefit programs; provides services regarding the design, financing, implementation, administration, and communication of compensation and employee benefit programs, including pension and profit-sharing plans, group life, health, accident and disability insurance programs, and income tax deferral plans; and provides other professional services. It also operates as agents in soliciting, negotiating, and effecting contracts of insurance through insurance companies; brokers in procuring contracts of insurance on behalf of the insured; and administrators in setting up and managing self-insured programs. The Risk Management segment provides a range of risk management services, including claims management, risk control consulting services, information management, and property appraisals; claims administration services related to self-insurance' programs for institutions, risk sharing pools and associations, and commercial and industrial customers; and self-insurance products and services. The Financial Services segment manages Gallagher's investment portfolio that comprises tax investments, real estate partnerships, an alternative investment fund manager, and notes receivable from investees. Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. serves business institutions, not-for-profit organizations, associations, and municipal and other governmental entities, as well as individuals. It has operations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Bermuda. The company was founded in 1927 and is based in Itasca, Illinois. |
