World's 15 largest foreign exchange reserves
Large reserves of foreign currency allow a government to manipulate exchange rates – usually to stabilize the foreign exchange rates to provide a more favorable economic environment. This list gives a dollar value for all financial assets available to a country's central monetary authority, a category that includes not only foreign currency and gold, but also a country's holdings of Special Drawing Rights in the International Monetary Fund, and its reserve position in the Fund.
