And the world's best airport is...

Singapore's Changi Airport retained its title as the World's Best Airport for the third straight year, according to the 2015 World Airport Awards held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Paris, France on Wednesday.

The accolades didn't stop there; Changi Airport also snapped up the title of Best Airport for Leisure Amenities, while the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport was named the World's Best Airport Hotel.

"Changi Airport offers today's airport customers real delights and surprises that are…quite unique," said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax.


Changi Airport boasts extensive entertainment facilities including free movie theatres and gaming centers, sleeping lounges and shower facilities. One remarkable 'surprise' is a two-story butterfly garden with over 1,000 butterflies.

"This recognition is particularly pleasing for us as it comes at a time of transformation at Changi Airport," said Lee Seow Hiang, CEO of Changi Airport Group.

No rest for the weary

There is no lack of far-sighted improvements and developments for Changi Airport Group.

The latest Singapore budget in March revealed a $3 billion plan to build a fifth terminal, even though the fourth hasn't been completed yet. The fourth terminal is intended to support both regional full-service and low-cost carriers.

"Last year we [had] 54 million passengers, don't forget when we first planned for Changi, it was only for 30 million," Liew Mun Leong, Chairman of Changi Airport Group told CNBC last July. "Today Terminal four is $1.5 billion, catering for 60 million passengers."

The World Airport Awards are based on 13.02 million customer nominations, evaluating customer satisfaction across performance indicators for airport service and product.

Incheon International Airport in South Korea was voted the World's second best airport, followed by Munich Airport in Germany and Hong Kong International Airport.
