Regina financial advisor on trial for fraud
The trial of a former financial advisor whose clients lost millions of dollars began in Regina on Monday.
Klaus Link has been charged with two counts of fraud and two counts of theft.
The Crown says the charges stem from the actions of Link, whose business, Tri-Link Consultants Inc., offered benefit and retirement savings plans to businesses and individuals between 1997 and 2007.
At some point, the Crown says, Link started diverting funds to pay out other clients, paying Tri-Link operating expenses and using the money for personal purposes.
Three years ago, Link and his company, Tri-Link Consultants Inc., were banned for life from trading in Saskatchewan.
They were ordered to repay $1.2 million to 51 of his former clients. Investors in Saskatchewan, Alberta and North Dakota say they've lost a total of $4.4 million.
The judge-alone trial is scheduled to last four weeks.
