Danish toy maker Lego invests nearly $534 million in German offshore wind farm

By The Associated Press

COPENHAGEN - Danish toy maker Lego says its parent company is investing nearly 3 billion kroner ($534 million) over the next four years in the construction of a German offshore wind farm.

Lego said Thursday its privately-owned parent company Kirkbi A/S will control 32 per cent of the Borkum Riffgrund wind farm with 77 turbines. It will become one of Germany's largest when completed in 2015.

Lego won't use the energy for its production, but CEO Joergen Vid Knudstorp said the investment is part of the company's ambition "of making a positive impact on the world."

Denmark's DONG Energy said it sold part of its stake in the wind farm to Lego and Denmark-based Oticon Foundation for a total of 4.7 billion kroner ($836 million).
