A Customer Received A Counterfeit $100 Bill From Walmart And Ended Up Getting Stuck With It
A Walmart customer in Michigan says she received a fake $100 bill from Walmart and she couldn't get a replacement, reports Tom Hillen at WOOD-TV.
The woman, Leann Ward, used a state benefits card to get $100 cash back at the store as part of her cash assistance. That's when she received the fake $100 bill.
"The bill could fool anybody" she tells WOOD-TV. "Whoever is doing it is good. Just want people to know that it's happening, today in Kent County right now. Be aware, be informed, watch your money."
How did she find out?
According to Ward, after receiving the bill from Walmart, she went to Menards to buy some household items. There, the cashier marked it with a counterfeit detection pen and discovered it was fake.
When Ward went back to Walmart with the bill, an assistant manager told her there was nothing they could do because she had already left the building, she says.
So, she's stuck with it, and out $100.
"The person on the receiving end of a counterfeit bill is often stuck with it," explains Chris Morran at the Consumerist. "Especially if they don't notice it until after leaving the spot of the transaction."
