Big North Provides Update on Mexican Graphite Operations

Vancouver, B.C., April 18, 2013 - BIG NORTH GRAPHITE CORP. (NRT.V) (the "Company" or "Big North"), announces that it has completed the second phase of development on the restart of the Nuevo San Pedro Mine, located in Sonora Mexico. The second and third levels of the mine have been cleared and stabilized. The existing rail in the mine has been repaired and successfully tested. On the main level, electrical and ventilation systems have been installed and the previously delivered winch has been installed, tested and is ready for operation. Sampling of graphite seams on the lower levels has been completed and will be processed and sent to a lab for assaying. Results will be announced once received.

Bulk graphite samples from the mine will be sent to Hazen Research Inc, of Golden Colorado and Activation Laboratories in Ancaster Ontario for metallurgy, floatation and further testing. The company currently has five full time miners assisting with the readiness of mine operations.

On November 20, 2012, the Company announced that the first phase of the re-development had been completed. At that time, heavy equipment had been delivered and repair and construction of haul ways and existing access roads to the mine site have been completed. Site prep and clearing at the mine site along with enlargement of stockpiling areas to allow for sorting and shipping of mined graphite was completed. Two new drills and support equipment and a compressor were delivered. Electric generator power and a cable winch have been installed for extracting graphite from the lower levels.

Spiro Kletas, President of Big North Graphite commented, "We are pleased with the progress at the Nuevo San Pedro amorphous graphite project and believe that we can achieve our goal of becoming one of the first junior graphite companies to capture some of the graphite market. The Nuevo San Pedro project is advancing according to plan to date and we believe in this project's ability to create a business for our shareholders in the near term."

The Nuevo San Pedro Mine is located in the San Jose de Moradillas region, a region that has produced graphite for more than 145 years. San Jose de Moradillas is located approximately 45 kilometers southwest of the city of Hermosillo, Mexico.

Nuevo San Pedro is an approximately 11 hectare property, located near the town of La Colorada. The La Lourdes graphite mine, which has been in operation for approximately 50 years, is located approximately 1 kilometer to the north. Nuevo San Pedro is a past producing mine, which shut down due to low graphite prices and is currently being re-opened. While Big North intends to re-start the Nuevo San Pedro mine, the Company has not established mineral resources and has not completed a valid mining study (as defined by NI 43-101) to support a production decision. Historically, a production decision under these circumstances results in much higher economic or technical risk. Furthermore, without a pre-feasibility or feasibility study and a graphite reserve, there can be no assurance that operations at Nuevo San Pedro will be profitable.
